The Caterpillars Have Arrived

Apparently, the caterpillar community must be feeling the economic "pinch" of the current times.  Last year, we received 5 caterpillars, this year a mere 4!  This week, we will begin observing and learning about the life cycle of the butterfly.  By the time the students arrive Monday, these youngsters will surely be already forming into chrysalides.  We will release the butterflies before the end of the year!  Please feel free to stop in and check out the progress!

POLLIWOGS!

This week we are learning about the life cycle of a frog!  We had a polliwog habitat visit our classroom and are hoping for some polliwogs of our own thanks to a former student and her muck-boot-wearing Momma!  The students will be able to watch the polliwogs grow and hopefully see them at least grow feet before the end of the school year.

We will begin learning about the life cycle of a butterfly next week when our caterpillars arrive.  Or butterfly habitats are waiting patiently and so are the children.

We are also watching some duck eggs for signs of life in Mrs. Anzalone's classroom.  Stay tuned for some exciting news....

With only 7 days of preschool left in the school year, we want to remind you that we will take every opportunity to explore the outdoors, weather permitting.  Please forgive any sand or dirt that may arrive home with your child ;-)

Getting ready for the Leprechaun!!!!

We thought if we left a message outside our room on the black top we could lure him in!

We even made an arrow pointing to our door so he would know where to go!

Even our wee one with a broken leg got to come out and draw some gold coins for the Leprechaun!
Our pot of Gold!
While we were outside, we met our upstairs neighbors!
They were very happy to see us! Such friendly neighbors!
Sign of Spring!!!! And No-one stepped on it!
While some friends were checking out the goings on in the cafeteria we noticed the hand print!
We decided to sneak up on our parents at dismissal time! We headed home to wait to see if the Leprechaun would come!

And when we arrived the next day, we were sooooo surprised to find...........................................................................................

The water in our toilet was green and there was a green footprint on the toilet seat!

Toilet paper strung everywhere!

But all we found in the trap was his boot!

And then we heard a knock at the door!

And a very Large Leprechaun came in!

Some friends were afraid, others were not!
We had a rainbow snack!
We also had shamrock rice krispie treats and green jello-jiggler gems!

Happy wee one!

He almost looks like a Leprechaun himself!

Irish for sure!

Simply adorable!

February

They think they are playing...We know they are working those muscles that will help them hold a pencil and write later.  Dabbing (hand-eye coordination). Play dough (muscle strength). Pinching with the tweezers (pencil grasp). Stamping (hand-eye coordination and training their eye to work from left to write to get ready for reading). Matching the number dots to the number word on the clothes pin (pinching muscle strength aka pencil grasp and learning our number words).

A very BRIGHT place to sort the colored hearts! Look at the concentration on that little face!

"OOOOH! The light shines right through them!"

Who needs a ton of Educational toys? A light box, plastic cups, plastic egg carton and heart jewels! Hours of Fun and Learning! It's even cooler in a dark room!
A little side note:
~****<3<3Love to our wounded duckling at home with a broken leg!XOXOXOXO! We are thinking of you and can't wait to see you! Prayers and healing thoughts sent your way Sweetie! <3<3****~
