Class Activities

 Classroom Schedule

Below you will find an outline for our day! I stress OUTLINE because we want to be flexible to the needs and interests of the children. If we are outside during "Gym Time" and we find a bird's nest or happen upon some other exciting naturally occurring event we will never "hurry" the children along for our schedule. We will always stick to "snack time" because we know that hungry bellies can lead to grumpy children. Our curriculum is a blend of Diocesan and New York State Standards. Our activities and play are carefully planned around this curriculum. We will include holidays, religious and seasonal activities as well as themes that are of interest to children (some examples include, but are not limited to: farm, jungle, ocean, weather, plants, friendship, dinosaurs, nursery rhymes, shapes and colors)

Classroom Activities

FREE PLAY: During free play, students will freely choose their
activities and toys.

CIRCLE TIME: A brief gathering in the morning for a greeting, prayer,
talk about the weather, and show and tell. Half of the class will
have show and tell on Monday and the other half will have show and
tell on Tuesday. We encourage your child to bring in something
special (book, picture, toy, etc) to share with the group. Show and
Tell gives students a sense of pride and allows them to practice and
develop their speech and language abilities with teacher support.

GROSS MOTOR ACTIVITY: 3 year olds are busy perfecting their gross
motor skills. We will organize activities (indoor and outdoor ~
weather permitting) to enhance their developing balance and coordination.

STORY TIME & EXTENSION ACTIVITY: During story time, we will read a
story coordinating with our theme or religion objective. Children
will complete an extension activity that further engages them in the
literary experience. We encourage parents or caregivers to be "Story
Godmothers or Godfathers" by coming in to read to our children.

SNACK TIME: Children will be given a healthy snack (with the
exception of delicious birthday treats) and can choose water or milk
for their drink. The children will complete snack time by clearing
their own places and washing their dishes. Try It Tuesdays ~ a few
times a month students will be exposed to a variety of fruits and
vegetables that they may try (and don’t worry, we won’t force anyone
to try anything) in keeping with our color theme of the month. Ex.
September is Red Month and we will introduce red pepper and
pomegranate seeds on Try It Tuesdays.

LEARNING CENTERS: Students will move through a variety of centers
supporting the domains of early childhood development; Gross-Motor,
Fine-Motor, Language, Cognitive, Social/Emotional, Self-Help/Adaptive
Spiritual & Moral.

CLEAN UP & GOODBYE SONG: "A place for everything, everything in its
place." - Benjamin Franklin. Children will clean up the toys they
have played with and we will sing our goodbye song and dismiss them to
your loving arms!
